Lil Nuggets

Here are some great "nuggets" I heard this week:

-There is nothing in life that I can't handle, as long as I don't try to handle it alone

-Pain in inevitable and suffering is optional

-We are the ones we have been waiting for*

-Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less

-Knowledge is learning from your mistakes, wisdom is learning from other people's mistakes.

*This quote is from a poem from the Hopi Nation, that I freaking LOVE. Here are a few stanzas of it:

"There is a river now flowing very fast.
It is so great and swift that ther are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold onto the shore
They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know that the river has it's destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore,
push off into the middle of the river,
keep our eyes open and our heads above water.
See who is there with you
and celebrate."

Sappy and existential and all that? Yes. Incredibly helpful if you open your heart to it? Definitely yes.

I'm going home for Christmas, and I'm planning on asking for help to not make it all about me. I realize that I have a tendency to do that, even inadvertently, and I really don't want to do that anymore. I'll be outside of myself, gain self esteem by doing esteemable acts, and put others first.

Merry Christmas.
