Yep, you read that right.
Yesterday I got up and went to work, as usual. Worked the whole shift, as usual. Then, right when I gathered my things to clock out and go home, by boss called me into a meeting room.
I was let go.
Along with 20 other staff members.
Jobless in January in Prescott, Arizona, is not a great place to be. Needless to say, I had a tiny emotional breakdown. Then I got a speeding ticket.
Ten points for my boyfriend though. He came over with flowers and a really sweet card. That made me cry again. Happy/sad/exhausted tears.
I'm trying to not get too stressed about bills and rent and food and gas money. I've been jobless before. Amazingly, though, my incredible grasp on sarcasm does not affect my ability to kick some SERIOUS job interview butt.
Wish me luck.

The RM
I got a text last week from a friend of mine, fresh off the mission. It was jarring and odd, holy crap 2 years already??
Since we wrote back and forth the entire time he was gone, the conversation wasn't awkward at all. He has the basic missionary anxiety about girls, school, etc etc. The odd thing is I am having some intense anxiety, too.
It's been a hell of a couple years, let me just say that.
The last time this friend and I spoke, face to face, I had just gotten out of the most terrible relationship on the face of the planet. I picked up and moved to San Diego to help my family care for my mother. Since then, my mom has passed, I"ve hit some insane lows, done some hardcore lifestyle reshaping to get into a healthy place, moved out of state, my sister got married, my other sister got sealed, my other sister got engaged, and I'm in the first ever healthy relationship of my life.
OH and I'm a redhead.
None of that would be a big deal if I had mentioned any of it in my letters...but...the only thing he knows is that my mom died, and I never went into any details of any kind.
I love this friend. We were really close, and he helped me with some hard things in my terrible Utah relationship...but...I think it might be too much, I've changed enough to the point where I don't think we can reconnect the same way? I don't know. Maybe I'm over analyzing. It barely even matters, because we are miles and miles apart from each other. Right?

Long Weekend
I had a crazy long weekend. I was seriously debating quitting my job, bailing on my lease, taking a nanny gig in Florida, and calling it a day.
This is how I react to intense stress, and I know this about myself. Most people take a bath or chain smoke. I plan on leaving the state. This time, I was debating leaving the country.
I'm still feeling a bit flighty, but I'm no longer doing Skype interviews with Australian nanny families...so that's a good sign.
Alot of it had to do with visiting my sweet sister Kristina Rae in her home in Vegas. Yes, I interrupted her newlywed bliss for my own selfish distraction. I'm the little sister. DEAL WITH IT.

Bland Musings
My boss does this thing, where every day she has to stand right next to my chair, and sort of stare out into nothing, and say something that seems like it would come out of a crappy sitcom or movie. She always looks at me right after, as if expecting a laugh, but it's never particularly funny. It's always cliche and sometimes doesn't make sense.
Examples:
(sigh) "Welcome to the ratrace" (sips coffee)
(sigh) "Another day in Paradise"(sips coffee)
(sigh) "It's the big show"(sips coffee)
(sigh) "As good as it gets"(sips coffee)
Her favorite is definitely the "day in paradise", but she says it in this listless, dead voice, with her eyes all glazed over, then abruptly makes eye contact with a smile on her face. I feel like if it was REALLY dramatic and one of my close friends did it, I would laugh. Like if Michael Ian Black said it, it would be stupid amounts of funny.
But she is my boss. We don't really hang around exchanging goofy office banter, and she kinda mails it in. Maybe I should give her notes on inflection, really hitting one word and just selling it, HARD.
Yeah, and I'll start coaching her on new material to try out on the kitchen staff. Michael Ian Black, afterall, is only funny because he is the master of timing+facial expression. I'll show her his show "Stella," she'll turn into a huge hit, and next thing you know, throw a brick wall behind this woman! Give her a microphone! I have created the greatest events-coordinator-gone-comedian EVER.
