Returned Missionaries

The title of "returned missionary" has been a bit of let down in my experience. Depressing, I know; however, having a few crappy RM run-ins makes weekends like this one shine all the brighter.

I spent the past 24 hours with a returned missionary who was everything an RM should be: intelligent, faithful, obedient, humble. We discussed the Doctrine and Covenants. He made a law of consecration joke when I complained about my roommates. His reasons for doing everything he is doing are all based on his relationship with the Lord.

Of course there were a few times when I would be explaining something or telling a story and I'd think: "Crap, how do I say this without making myself come across as totally insane?" Answer- there is no way to say it without sounding crazy. You just gotta get it out there and grit your teeth.

Inexplicably, for every one of these moments that made me close my eyes and hold my breath, he responded "I like that," with a sincere smile, and nothing else.

I'm hoping there are a ton of really normal, uber-mormon returned missionaries out there that like 'em young and crazy, and I am just now hitting the tip of the ice burg.

:: sigh ::

soooooooo refreshing. soooo soooo sooooo refreshing.

inhale. exhale. smile.
