Sure there are some downsides to Provo so far: The cold, the strange roommates, the running into old pals and not knowing how to act (friendly? ashamed? outraged?); however, there are also some fabulous perks.
1)My American Heritage T.A. That is one spicy piece of man.
2)The Jamba in the Wilk (the one I now officially work at) lets you plug in your OWN MUSIC! And since I'm a shift manager I reign supreme and we will be listening to some severely bizarre post rock electronica madnesssssssssss.
3)My creative writing class. I've already finished the reading and started several of the assignments that aren't due for a month. It is my official outlet. We can write about whatever we want and however we want. I'm taking it as an opportunity to start brainstorming about that memoir that I just haven't been getting around to...
4)My ward. Granted, I haven't actually been to church yet and only one of my roommates actually goes to the ward, but I am giving a talk tomorrow so they are about to get all sorts of acquainted with me. I'm excited. It is getting too many introductions all out of the way at once. Perfect.
5)The Time! How there is so much of it, how theres not so much, the fact that I am the master of it. I think living with Nikki felt like living back at home alot of the time- not like that is a bad thing or a good thing it just felt similar. Today I was on campus from 8 until 2, first at a meeting then studying. Now i'm finally back home, I'm going to eat a sandwhich, watch a movie, try to relax a little before heading back on campus to train some more at work.
Here is the deal with my work: It is completely different from my Jamba Juice. This isn't only because it is on campus so it is run by BYU (this makes the store rules, the cash handling, and the registers all COMPLETELY different), but also because the Jamba I worked at in Lincoln was called a J5 store. There are only a handful of J5 stores in the whole country, meaning that I am used to a very specific and special type of equipment...so I have to learn how to use entirely new MACHINES! I can't even dispense juice properly anymore!
Even though the manager who hired me KNEW I was from a J5 and that I've never worked at a BYU Jamba, I closed yesterday. By myself. She didn't even tell me where the keys were to lock up. OH, and, the store is freaking filthy and everyone who works there is lazy. They all like me now, but once I no longer need them for training purposes I am going to let loose the wrath of Everything-Must-Sparkle Brooke.
Have an excellent day, and remember: Just because you are good at it, doesn't mean you should do it.
