I email a professor I took Creative Writing from last semester every once in a while. He loved my work and made me convinced I should be not only an English major, but an author.
He knows my current dilemma, that I'm heartbroken I'm not going to school, and that I am trying to start up writing again.
Today he sent me this email:
OK, so you’re not in school, your brain is atrophying, yet you want to write, even be forced to write.
Depending on how desperate your condition is, this idea might work:
You could attend my class on Thursday nights, without enrolling.
Turn in whatever you want to turn in for my scathing remarks.
It’s just an offer. I wouldn’t offer this to most people, but your brains and your discussion abilities would benefit the class.
No obligation whatsoever, and I would worry about your mental state if you accepted this offer.
So now you’re saying one of the following:
--The man is obviously out of his mind if he thinks I’d sit through his class again!
--The French bread was pretty good.
--What, and miss a shift at McDonald’s?
This is the best thing that has happened to me ALL MONTH.
I'm totally doing it.
p.s. the McDonald's comment is regarding Sammy's. And the French Bread comment is regarding his constant carby gifts to the class.

Brooke, that would be AWESOME! I want to come too just to meet this guy...he sounds so different than the typical English professors I always had at the Y.
And I am so sorry you have to deal with all of this shizzle. I wish there was an easy answer, but I do agree with the majority about staying in Provo. I think the more you move the harder it's going to be to move on. Sounds like your roommates are cool, you just need to stay preoccupied.
Let me know if you need anything! I'm not the far, but far enough away that you would feel like you are "out of town" (Happy Valley can get a bit stuffy)
yay brooke! i'm happy for you, i know how much you ADORED his class. he is such an awesome professor and you guys are lucky to have such good communication. seriously, that'll be perfect for you! A+ to the man for doing his job... teaching those who want to be taught!
well, there's your answer. Stay. Do it. Maybe the ex... I don't know what to tell you about that one. It sucks and I'm sure it will be hard, but you'll become a stronger woman out of it!!
He is made to be your mentor. Do it Brooke. This school semester my not have worked out but it doesn't mean you have to give up on writing. Start brainstorming a book and turn that in for free advice or scathing remarks:)
